The story of Oedipus has Tragedy running right through its veins. Oedipus basically lived a life where even though he tried as hard as he could to avoid the earth-shattering events foretold of him, it just didn't work out for him at the end. This being the fact that he married his own mother, and to make matters worse, Jocasta killed herself because of it. Oedipus wished he didn't have to deal with this harsh dilemma, so he set forth to kill Jocasta even though she had committed suicide AND Oedipus had stabbed his own eyes, so it wasn't worth it, thus the tragedy.
So was I got out of Oedipus was the fact that some tragic moments in life can't be avoided, but trying to go to the next extreme to try and fix it is not the way to go, but to instead hold my head up high and persevere.
